About Bobby Grubbs

Sheriff and Past Texas Ranger, Bobby Grubbs
For two terms I have had the privilege and honor to be your Sheriff and work hard to make Brown County a much safer place to live. Your Sheriff’s Office is made up with conscientious, principle-centered employees who press well toward the objectives I have put before them. We have over 70 employees; about half are employed in the jail and the other half on the enforcement side, which also consists of the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Warrants and Transports Division, and Courthouse Security. Our work often exceeds the many expectations in today’s world of enforcement and corrections and we have enjoyed many successful accomplishments and a reduction in violent criminal activity. Your officers are well trained in several specialized areas; drug enforcement, patrol criminal interdiction, tactical enforcement, computer forensics, sex crimes, and advanced investigations. I have strengthened our Criminal Investigations Division and  put more deputies on patrol during vulnerable times. Our deputies work well with other agencies and critical resources are often well-leveraged because of our many cooperative relations with local, state, and federal agencies.  Because of the hard work of your deputies, we continue to carry a high clearance rate on Brown County crimes.

I have intentionally placed a very heavy emphasis on drug enforcement because the drug problem was, and still is, the prominent concern of our citizens.  Rightfully so, drug abuse is the fuel for violent crime and if we are to make a difference, we must go after the heart of the problem.  Without question, aggressive drug enforcement has a clear impact on crime and reduces violent crime rates.  Since taking office, we have led several large investigations which successfully targeted a large number of local drug traffickers, large and small. Over the span of my administration, your deputies have made 2200 felony arrests and handled over 800 successful drug investigations. Because of this, we continue to see a reduction in reported violent crimes. I often have positive feedback from our citizens and officers who believe we are making a tangible impact.  My strong stand on criminal law enforcement and aggressive drug enforcement does make a clear difference and I will unapologetically continue this course. I have implemented stricter compliance and enforcement on registered sex offenders and we continue to see a lower number of sex offenders in the county.  Internet sex crimes are a growing problem in Texas and we work closely with the Attorney General’s Office to address these offenses. I believe we are making Brown County a harder place for sexual predators.

I take my job very seriously.  As a Ranger, I saw firsthand the devastation that crime can have on people.  Criminal law enforcement is personal to me. It affects the safety and well being of our citizens. Today’s demanding enforcement and corrections makes for a complex and difficult job that must be governed by sound, well-thought out decisions.  This is not only critical to operational effectiveness but to fiscal efficiency.  I have implemented many internal changes to run things more efficiently. While at the same time, through grant procurement, your officers are better equipped than at any time before.  I must be a good steward of your tax dollars and I will always be looking for ways to run this office as efficiently as I can.

Prior to being elected Sheriff in 2004, I was a Texas Ranger for 19 years and with the Texas Department of Public Safety for over 34 years.  I have always wanted to make a difference in making this world a safer place for our families and children.  Brown County is a good place to live and grow a family and I want to do my best to make it even better.  It starts with your vote. My wife Joy and I have been married for 42 years and our two children grew up in Brown County. We have 3 grandchildren and are active members of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ.  I want to continue the work I began and I pledge to you that I will continue to do this with deep honesty, high integrity, and to the best of my ability. I invite you to carefully examine my work history. As you examine the candidates, I believe you will come away with the clear and right decision.  I value your trust in me. I will continue, with your support, to focus on enforcement that is clearly driven to impact the crime problems we face.  You have my sincere appreciation.
